The Anxiety-Soothing Body Lotion That Helps Steph Drift off to Sleep

Im not what youd call “good at sleeping. ” Do you call people that? I do – its a rare talent, and always one that leaves me awe-stricken when I encounter it in others.

I spent most of my life tossing and turning for hours every night before finally falling asleep, and thinking that was normal, until I discovered melatonin in college and suddenly became far more sleep-capable. But even with my habitual pre-bedtime melatonin, I sometimes still have toss-y, turn-y nights, so Im always drawn to products that claim to help you drift off with more ease.

As a beauty editor as well as somewhat of a gimmicky wellness fiend, Ive tried just about every pillow mist, candle, essential oil, sleep mask, tea, gadget and supplement with sleep-enhancing claims. But one of my all-time favorite snooze-assisting items is without a doubt Lushs Sleepy Body Lotion.

Lush Sleepy Body Lotion, $9. 95, available at Lush.

The internet absolutely loves this stuff. So I was, of course, eager to try it for myself when the brand was gracious enough to send a sample my way. One use, and I was sold: Its sweet, dreamy scent melds lavender with tonka and almond, but somehow doesnt overtly smell like any of those aromas. The combination is instantly soothing to me and my ever-present anxiety, while the pudding-like formula is also soothing to my skin.

I slather on the blend of ultra-moisturizing ingredients – oat milk, almond oil, jojoba oil and cocoa butter, amongst others – right out of the shower; the scent helps to mentally prepare me for sleep, and then I wake up with soft, happy skin in the morning. Its quickly become a part of my evening routine I look forward to during the day. Turns out the internet is sometimes right about things. Who knew?
