Maria Fixed Her Uneven Skin Tone With These 3 Products

I look forward to using them every single morning. Ole Henriksen Balance It All Essentials Set, $34, available at Sephora.

I’ve mentioned in previous Editors’ Picksthat I’m a huge creature of habit when it comes to beauty products. I never bother to try anything new because I’ll buy the same item over and over if it does its job well.

But with an almost-overflowing beauty closet at the Fashionista HQ, I’ve been able to get out of my routine’s comfort zone and test out a product or two.

About a month or so ago, I picked up not one, not two, but three Ole Henriksen products – the Find Your Balance Oil Control Cleanser, Balancing Force Oil Control Toner and Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator, aka the Balance It All Essentials Set – that were up for grabs.

I was originally drawn to this brand because I’m a fan of its (now-discontinued)cleansing cloths. My skin at the time was in a pretty shitty state after a recent trip to Miami, which left my complexion dull, uneven and blotchy because I tan so easily in the sun. I was treating my face to regular deep-cleansing masks and acidpeels to get it back on track, and adding these new items helped give an extra boost to my self-prescribed skin-care treatments.

Each of these Ole Henriksen products are meant to target oily skin, and while my shiny T-zone still calls for a mid-day blotting session, I have definitely noticed a big change in my complexion. It’s much clearer and more even – thanks to the toner and moisturizer being packed with sloughing AHAs – plus, the cleanser seems to be keeping my usual PMS-related breakouts to a minimum.

I’d also like to mention that I always look forward to using these products because they smell so freakin’ good. The scent is aeucalyptus-peppermint hybrid that is both refreshing and energizing, making my mornings a lot more bearable these days.
