This ‘Solid’ Lip Gloss Is the Most Excited Steph Has Been About a Lip Color in Years

By now, we’ve established that lip gloss is back with a vengeance and better than ever. The new crop of 2018 formulas offer up all of the glint-y shine of glosses past, minus that not-so-appealing hair-sticking, tar-like feel.

And while many of the newer glosses feature innovative formulas, one from Marc Jacobs Beauty takes that to a whole other level. And it’s the most excited I’ve been about a lip product in years. (With the exception of, like, every Pat McGrath Labs launch, that is. )

Upon first glance at the closed tube, theMarc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stickappears to be a fairly standard lip gloss: I expected to open it up and discover a typical liquid-gel and a doe-foot applicator.

But then, siiiiike! It’s actually a solid lipstick-like bullet, complete with a click-y swivel and everything. Then I was like, oh, okay, I guess this is just a tinted lip balm? And then, sike again! Immediately upon contact with my lips, it melted into exactly that liquid-gel texture I was expecting, delivering the pretty glaze and shimmer you only get from a gloss. But it still feelsa lot like a balm, by which I mean moisturizing, cushiony and not at all sticky.

The color payoff is pretty impressive, too, and while there’s not really a hue in the eight-shade range I don’t like, my favorite is Sugar Sugar (shown above) – a rosy beige with pale gold shimmer that reads as a slightly amped-up nude on me.
