The Face Wash Steph Uses Pretty Much Every Night

Yep: Its me, Steph, here to talk about my skin-care routine again! Somehow, though Ive written 3,230,892 Editors Picks*, Ive yet to discuss the cleanser I use almost every day, Glossier Milky Jelly.

Thats because its really nothing flashy. It doesnt have bells or whistles or acids or a crazy, selfie-bait gimmick of any kind – its just a really good, mild face wash that gets skin super clean without messing with its pH or moisture barrier.

If Im wearing a lot of makeup (especially waterproof mascara), Ill start with my favorite oil cleanser and then follow it up with this guy, which is water-based. It also contains poloxamer, a cleansing agent thats so gentle its also found in contact solution (weird but great), rosewater (which lends a mild floral scent) and skin soothers like comfrey root, allantoin and glycerin.

The formula has a texture of a very light lotion, and it doesnt get sudsy – the general rule is that suds = dry, stripped, angry skin – but rather, turns melty and yes, milky (even though that descriptor kind of makes me shudder) before rinsing cleanly.

It can be massaged into dry skin and then emulsified with water if youre using it to remove makeup, or used on a damp face if youre not. I like to think of it as a more modern, grown-up update on the Cetaphil cleanser I spent most of my teen years using. Same principle; better formula (and packaging).

*Okay, fine, more like 98.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, $18, available at Glossier.
