There have been a lot of food and drink mashups lately, as consumers these days are hungry for variety. From Kit Kat quesadillas to cereal milkshakes, some sound seriously good while others seem like a stomach ache waiting to happen.
The latest food news is from Pepsi. The cola company just released a Salted Caramel flavored soda for the holidays.
This isn’t the first creative flavor by Pepsi. They’ve dabbled with holiday spice and caramel cream in the past, and their regular profile includes tastes like wild cherry and vanilla. Executives at the company told The Today Show that they decided to integrate the caramel flavor into their profile because it’s something they found consumers are looking for – especially around the holidays.
According to Pepsi, the specialty variety “blends the refreshing taste of cola with a delicious caramel finish. ” If you’re looking for a sugar rush, this stuff should do the trick. The drink is loaded with both high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. A 20-ounce bottle has 44 grams of sugar and 170 (empty) calories.
“It’s not bad at all,” said Shane Lou, lifestyle news editor at Today. “The caramel flavor isn’t strong, but it’s apparent enough that it’ll give you a sweet aftertaste. If Pepsi is your cola of choice, it’s worth giving the salted caramel flavor a shot. ”
But most people, according to a slew of social media posts, are reluctant to try the sugary soda. Keep scrolling for a sampling of reactions to the announcement of Salted Caramel Pepsi, then head over to Target to try it yourself.
