Our girl Zendaya has some choice words to say when it comes to protecting her relationship with Spider-Man co-star and long-term boyfriend, Tom Holland.
While we love the sporadic cutie social media updates that they do every now and then, the couple mostly keep things between them fairly private. In an interview with Elle US, Zendaya opened up about the private and public elements of her life, including matters of her heart.
«Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public,» she said. “I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. ”
She also raised some interesting and valid points about the importance of keeping a relationship “your own” while also not hiding it.
“It’s about protecting the peace,” she explains. «And letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now. »
Zendaya also opened up about other parts of her life that are impacted by fame, including her ability to have a drink in a bar. For her, things shifted after the last Spider-Man film and the latest season of Euphoria.
“Before, I could get away with going places and getting in and out,» she says. «But in Boston [while filming Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino’s new film Challengers] , I would end up going right back home, because it was really overstimulating. Everybody would go hang out at a bar or something, and I’d be like, ‘I’d love to, but I think I could ruin everybody’s night. Because it’s just not going to be fun once I’m there. ’ ”
In a recent interview with GQ, Tom Holland echoed his partner’s sentiment, describing them feeling «sort of felt robbed of our privacy» when pictures of them kissing surfaced.
«One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,» he said, adding: “I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. ”
That’s fair enough, we say. Give the lovers their space.
