Despite having built her image on social media, Kim Kardashian West has decided to spend less time on her phone in 2018. “My New Year’s Resolution is to be on my phone less and be more in the moment,” the reality star wrote on her app.
This will give her more time to focus on her growing family, booming business (new KKW Beauty products are expected to drop soon), and fitness objectives.
This won’t be the first time Kim has taken a break from her online activity. After she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris in late 2016, she went silent on all social media outlets for nearly three months. She later attributed the horrific event to her use of Snapchat, saying that the gunmen must have known she was alone in her hotel room at the time.
While it doesn’t seem like Kim has plans to completely disappear from social media again, she does acknowledge the benefits of unplugging. It’s no secret that the time we spend connected to our smartphones is staggering. In fact, a number of studies show thatAmericans spend over four hours on their mobile phones a day.
All this time online undoubtedly has an impact on our well-being. Research has linked heavy technology use to higher risk of sleep disturbances, eye fatigue and headaches, increased spinal problems, and impeded performance, while other evidence points to the damaging effects social media has on our mental well-being, including feelings of social isolation and less life satisfaction.
So, you may want to consider the wise words of KKW and spend less time glued to your phone – or at the very least, try a social media purge. The mother of two also says she is looking forward to the birth of her new baby girl, who is expected any day now by surrogacy, and taking a fun girls’ trip in the new year.
