Viral post might just be the most relatable way to talk about depression

It has been quite the year for high-profile stories of depression and suicide. It seems like people you wouldn’t even expect are dealing with the relentless monster that is depression. But that’s the point, isn’t it? You don’t even know who’s battling it.

In light of the recent deaths of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, an anonymous post about depression has been going viral, with almost 10K shares. Posted on the Facebook page of Charlene Nguyen, this is an apt description of what depression is. It’s an unstoppable force of nature, like a blizzard, and it takes no prisoners.

In order to come out on the other side, we all need a better understanding and a willingness to both ask for, and wholeheartedly give, the help that is needed.

Everyone’s battling with something different, and this anonymous piece adds a little perspective to the topic.

While it would be naive to think that it’s as simple as reaching out, to bring someone back from the brink, it doesn’t hurt to try.

It really does take a village.
