Victoria Beckham “I was never the popular girl at school”

Oh-so sweet and innocent, Victoria Beckham (nee Adams) smiles for the cameras at her child modelling agency, aged only 12 years old – pre-Spice Girls and pre-couture.

Here’s the future Mrs Beckham in her casuals at a Spice Girls rehearsal back in 1994.

Oh, come on – we all remember when a metallic Puffa jacket was a wardrobe must-have.

Legend has it that after spying Ms Adams in her shiny black catsuit in the vid for Say You’ll Be There, Becks knew she was the one. Still sporting her Posh Spice bob, Vic unveiled her massive sparkler in this very Nineties get up…

…And it wasn’t long before the couple’s ‘matchy matchy’ phase was in full swing. They sported these his ‘n’ hers suits on Valentine’s Day in 1998, but it was Victoria’s exposed bra that garnered the most column inches. And quite rightly so. Don’t pretend you didn’t try this at home…

Heavily pregnant with first son Brooklyn and very soon to be Mrs Beckham, Victoria showed some fashion restraint in this sexy black body-con number. A hint of what was to come, maybe?

Props to Vic for getting back into such amazing shape so soon after Brooklyn’s birth, but really guys, co-ordinated head-to-toe leathers? As for the positives, though, they were at a Versace party, and this is one of the most iconic fashion images of the 90s. So there.

Victoria Beckham made a showstopping turn in this Julien Macdonald dress in 2000, shortly before the Spices split and she made her modelling debut at London Fashion Week.

Dubiously channelling Another Level in this combat and Timbaland boots combo, Victoria posed with Dane Bowers before a performance of their tune Out Of Your Mind.

Another solo performance, another (unusual) outfit. But fear not, for we have a crystal ball and there were good things to come in VB’s fashion future…

Following on from her solo success, Victoria showed off new hair extensions – and ditched the leather for a rather more flirty slip dress instead.

Mrs Beckham opted for the professional look for an appearance in court – the future fashionista suffered two kidnap plots and a scary death threat in the early Noughties.

Denim overload is never a good idea, Victoria – especially with questionable highlights in the mix. We’ll chalk this one up to experience.

Meeting the Queen would have most of us in the kind of cold sweat-inducing sartorial quandary only nightmares are made of. Not so Mrs Beckham, who upped the style ante in this matching black shift and coat, teamed with a Phillip Treacy fascinator, when David picked up his OBE.

Victoria ditches the Posh and goes straight for flashy-flashy at a party at the Royal Albert Hall in 2004. The Beckhams put on a combined brave face, despite being dogged by the Rebecca Loos scandal at the time.

Dabbling with boho (Sienna Miller, we hold you responsible), Victoria wears oversized bangles with her hippy belt. But for once, it was David stealing the fashion limelight – think that his wife had something to do with that embroidered sweater?

Marking her first ‘in’ to the fashion world, Victoria posed outside LA style mecca Kitson to promote the collection of jeans she designed for denim brand Rock Republic.

Toting the first in her massive collection of Hermés Birkins, Victoria sets the style bar high for the wives and girlfriends at the World Cup 2006, Germany, in her micro-mini shorts, waistcoat and look-at-me shades.

Victoria began the transformation from pop star to bona fide fashion icon by losing the hair extensions and forging a blossoming relationship with new BFF Katie Holmes. The A-list pals posed at spring/summer 2007’s Chanel fashion show – wearing Chanel, naturellement.

The bob is sleek, the hat is impressive and the dress is chic, but Victoria didn’t make herself popular on the day of pal Katie Holmes’ wedding – she was the only star to stop and pose for the photographers swarming the venue and, thanks to her dramatic choice of dress, was beset by ‘upstaging the bride’ comments in the world’s gossip columns.

Come 2006 the Beckham clan had upped sticks to Spain while David was playing for Real Madrid, meanwhile Victoria kept busy designing sunglasses, releasing her personal style guide That Extra Half An Inch, and general fashion schmoozing. She was papped looking über-chic and polished at the opening of a new Armani store in Paris in January 2007.

With the news that Becks was transferring to LA Galaxy, Victoria Beckham began making preparations for her new life Stateside – starting with an appearance in this floor-length white gown at 2007’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

When you get the Lagerfeld seal of approval, you know you’ve made it. Victoria got a personal invite to that season’s Chanel Cruise show – although we can’t imagine VB in this 80s-style ensemble now!

Taking the Californian bull by the horns, Victoria Beckham did a Barbie at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards with a peroxide crop, Tango tan, fluoro bra and zebra print dress.

Well, if there’s one way to get noticed, it’s to show up to the GLAMOUR Awards in this barely-there outfit. Cavalli, Chanel, YSL… It all added up to an outfit that divided fashion critics but you’ve got to admire her fashion gusto, regardless.

Luckily for them, the Beckham boys were still too young to be afflicted by Embarrassing Mum Syndrome in 2007 – otherwise they might have had an opinion on the sexy Dodgers uniform Victoria wore to announce her arrival on the LA sports scene.

Victoria Beckham worked futuristic sequins and silver Louboutin heels at a store appearance to promote her dVb lines at New York department store Saks. Sleek, chic and sparkly… We loved it!

Sparking Hermés envy in the GLAMOUR offices, Victoria wore this co-ordinated Roland Mouret dress for David’s official welcome to the LA Galaxy team.

Skinny jeans and a grey T make the perfect off-duty outfit – but if you think you’ll see Mrs Beckham in flats, think again.

By now a regular fixture on the Fashion Week circuit, Victoria Beckham wore this oh-so cute and infinitely covetable Oscar de la Renta mini dress, paired with an Hermés clutch and Givenchy heels, to sit front row at the designer’s spring/summer 2008 show.

Posh continued to make her mark on the New York style set in this attention-grabbing Hervé Leger body-con dress at 2007’s star-studded Marc Jacobs show.

At the Chanel spring/summer 2008 show, the fashionista wore her trademark pout with this teal green prom dress, patent heels and hu-uge sunglasses.

Back with the Spice Girls during their short-lived 2008 reunion, Vic looked stunning in this lace detail dress with thigh-high split at a performance for US lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret.

Despite the fact she topped Mr Blackwell’s infamous Worst Dressed List in 2007, we thought Victorialooked downright incredible in this tangy orange wrap dress from Donna Karan later that very same year.

This revealing white lace gown earned her a big thumbs down at the 2008 Costume Institute Gala – only a month after she bagged her first British Vogue cover

Stepping out of the swanky Scott’s restaurant in London’s Mayfair, Victoria won the GLAMOUR. com seal of approval all over again in this near perfect combination of printed mini, cute cardigan and purple Birkin.

Have we stepped back into the Nineties? Posh ‘n’ Becks paired up in matching leather jackets (with Posh in lime green skinnies) for an LA basketball game.

This heart-covered Marc Jacobs dress and sleek crop make Victoria a happy girl, and little wonder.

Who’d have thought that the girl in the head-to-toe biker leathers would wind up pulling out some of the most sophisticated looks of 2008? Here, she rocks a Prada skirt and blouse with the drool-inducing Alexander McQueen bump-toe heels.

Busily labouring on her first dVb high end collection, Vic stuck to a business-like style for a meeting in New York.

The number one rule of red carpet dressing? Take your sunglasses off! While Mrs B kept herself hidden behind some monster shades, we were loving the canary yellow Roland Mouret dress she wore to the 2008 ESPY Awards regardless.

If there’s one thing we can rely on Victoria for, it’s taking risks in the style department. Quite possibly the only woman brave enough to sport Antonio Berardi’s heel-less heeled rubber boots, she donned these surrealist numbers to a promo for the new Beckham fragrances.

Pointy Balenciaga heels, quilted Chanel, a self-designed dress and a new Hepburn-esque crop all do a perfect fashion recipe make. We like.

Nailing the yummy mummy look while taking the Beckham boys to lunch on New York’s Upper East Side, Victoria wore a white woollen Marc Jacobs coat and cool-as-cucumber white trilby.

With her dress collection a complete sell-out in Selfridges, Victoria headed to Dolce Gabbana’s Milan store to do a spot of splurging, wearing one of her own designs. Well, there’s nothing like a bit of self-promotion, after all. And it was a case of start as you mean to go on…

Victoria Beckham made sure she got heads turning at Elton John’s 2009 Oscar Party in (yep, you’ve guessed it) a dress from her own collection. This time, she opted for a dramatic, fish-tailed black gown with sculpted, sequinned shoulders.

Posh came over all Jackie O in this sophisticated collarless coat and heels.

Loving the hair, loving the ping pong ball heels, loving the cute polka-dot Marc Jacobs dress. Result? Another top look.

A million miles away from her pre-Spice look, Victoria looked every bit the fashion powerhouse as we spotted her out and about in the spring of 2009 wearing this polka-dotted trench and obligatory designer accessories.

If there’s one lesson we can take from studying La Beckham’s wardrobe, it’s this: never do things by half measures. This corseted Giles Deacon mini dress paired with OTK boots and a full face of make-up may not be to everyone’s taste, but there’s no questioning this lady’s dedication to the fashion cause.

Just a few weeks down the line, VB was cutting a much more sophisticated figure in full-skirted dress – well, she was at Burberry’s spring summer 2012 show, a. k. a. the hottest ticket at London Fashion Week.

Patterened tights with an LBD is definitely a VB wardrobe moment we can get on board with. The Posh one wore this understated-yet-chic ensemble as she arrived to catch a flight from LAX in February 2010.

‘Take that, fashion critics,’ we can hear VB thinking, as she once again pulled on a Giles mini with long boots in the summer of 2010.

Something about Victoria Beckham in this Miu Miu mini dress makes us want to say ‘aw’ – we’re not used to seeing her let her guard down in such flirty, delicate shapes and we’re smitten.

Come September 2010 there was a distinct 60s vibe creeping into the most watched wardrobe on the planet. We took note, obviously.

It’s testament to how far Victoria’s signature style had come from the Spicy old days when this shot of her in – shock, horror! – dressed down mode made headlines in 2011.

With the birth of baby Harper Seven, a new era in the style evolution of Victoria began: mummy-daughter matching. Cuteness squared.

Victoriawas thrilled to be inducted into the fashion hall of fame in November 2011 when she scooped Best Designer Brand at the British Fashion Awards. She wore a dramatic black halter gown – of her own design, natch – for the ceremony.

Fast forward to February 2012, and the artist formerly known as Posh was already rocking her autumn/winter 2012 collection – her signature strict silhouette paired with leather and military accents.

Victoria subsequently showed off her softer side at a shoe promo in Hong Kong, adding a frosted blue cardigan and on-trend side plait to her LWD.

We were super excited to see Victoria channelling her inner geek (well, she is launching an eyewear collection), as guest fashion editor of our sister title US GLAMOUR for its September 2012 issue. Could a new career in publishing be calling? Let’s just say that if VB were to put her mind to it, we’ve no doubt she’d achieve it in characteristic style.

Mrs Beckham put her best fashion foot forward at a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Event in October 2012, wearing peep-toe leather boots, a gauzy top and super mini – love it!

In January 2013, VB gave fashion lovers a preview of what was to come at her NY fashion week show: oversized bags worn as clutches. The question is, are your arms strong enough for this trend?

At a London party at the end of 2013, VB opted for this simple cutaway gown courtesy of her own label – of course.

We love a good evening suit but Victoria Beckham took tailoring to a new level in this deconstructed monochrome outfit; for something suitably head-turning, make like Victoria and try a long-line blazer.

Turning red carpet dressing on its head again, Mrs. Beckham stepped out on the red carpet in this sexy double breasted coat and simple heels.

Giving the obligatory nod at the end of her latest New York fashion week show in February 2014, Victoria Beckham again chose a simple black palette but kept it interesting with oversized separates and excellent shoes.

For a J Crew x Vogue dinner in mid September 2014, Victoria looks her usual immaculate self in a stunning black mini complete with oversized floral front detail.

A grey day in London, and Victoria Beckham is looking a bit of all-white. The style icon looks super chic in a cable knit skirt which she teamed with the most gorgeous roll-neck jumper. The jumper is from her own line (but of course! ) and we want it. Now.

Papped at LAX with her family in tow, Vicky B looked ultra glam in a navy silk jumpsuit and oversized shades.

Victoria kept it classic in a little black dress while attending the First Ladies luncheon in New York.

Anyone else think this look is classic VB? Victoria was spotted wearing this navy co-ord and black heeled boots combo while out and about in New York.

Victoria looked chic, sophisticated and, in a word, fantastic in her nude/beige ensemble.

We can’t get enough of VB’s ultra stylish long black dress with its frayed hemline… ultimate classic cool!

What a beautiful dress! VB sported a pretty purple slip dress, and kept warm in a navy light-weight trench coat.

VB wore a colourful ensemble while out and about recently. We love the entire look, from the mustard polo neck down to the cute kitschy printed skirt.

This look is classic VB: chic, sophisticated and incredibly sleek. She does a trouser suit better than anyone!

Making a visit to her own store, VB worked a tailored black coat. We adore the feminine detail on the sleeves. Very VB.

We’d do bad things to get our hands on one of Victoria Beckham’s moon-shaped bags debuted at her spring/summer 16 show. She teamed it excellently with one of her own creations: a ribbed, culotte and roll neck co-ord set.

Again, wearing one of her own designs expertly, VB rocked a check print design fresh off her autumn/winter 16 runway.

This is as sporty as VB gets, subtly nodding to athleisure with a pair of loose black trousers with white piping – a very loose nod to tracksuits.

Wearing a lemon yellow coat and matching jumpsuit while out in the Big Apple, VB just brightened up our day. The stunning coat is one of Victoria’s own designs, obv.

Her oversized suit with floor-grazing trousers and bold shoulders might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we love it on VB.

Colour clash queen! VB mixed bright colours once more at JFK – this time orange and fluro lime green.
