Since when did lunch become chowing down over the keyboard? Here’s to reclaiming the middle of the day and turning it into your own downtown adventure in the Circle City.
1: Learn something new.
Pop into one of the many museums found in the square mile and catch a new exhibit. From historic homes to a percussive arts museum, here’s to experiencing something new in 60 minutes or less!
These 11 AM performances feature complimentary coffee and pastries plus an hour of classical music at Hilbert Circle Theatre with the ISO and special guests. The 2019-2020 season kicks off in October!
3: Create a lunch break bucket list.
Use Yelp Collections to create a collaborative lunch break bucket list with your coworkers. From Morocaan and Poke to Thai and Mexican fusion, you could fill the calendar with fresh finds for weeks. Lunch club, anyone?
4: Hit your 10k+ steps for the day and grab some fresh air.
Urban hiking: it’s a thing, you guys. Here’s to taking advantage of all of the beautiful trails in downtown Indy and hitting the sidewalk. Complete the Canal Walk loop and you’ve walked three miles. Or pick different sections of the eight miles of the Cultural Trail and soak in the art along the journey. First time renting a bike from the Pacers Bikeshare? Today’s the day, my friend.
5: Pack a picnic and catch one of the free 250 lunchtime concerts a year at Indianapolis Artsgarden.
The convenient location in the heart of downtown makes it easy to reach and it doesn’t hurt that it’s connected to downtown’s skywalk system.
6: Catch up on your reading.
Dust off your library card and check out a book at the stunning Central Library. Snag a good read and head to the top floor for one of the best views of downtown! Here’s another idea: support a local bookstore like Indy Reads, on Mass Ave. Best part? All profits go to adult literacy programs.
7: Celebrate Indy’s patriotic spirit at a monument or memorial.
There is no city in the country that maintains more acreage honoring veterans than Indianapolis. Fun fact: Indy is second only to Washington D.C. in the number of monuments dedicated to veterans. Have you visited Lady Victory up close on Monument Circle (only 331 steps or an elevator ride away!). Don’t miss the shrine room at the Indiana War Memorial. Yelpers describe this free downtown attraction as “breathtaking and inspirational.”
8: Create-your-own progressive lunch tour at Indianapolis City Market with a catacombs tour.
Who says you have to pick one stand? Bring on the tamales, fresh pressed juice, lattes and soups. Have a few coworkers along for the ride? Set up a budget and have everyone grab food to share! Bonus if you visit on a Wednesday: the market spills onto Market Street for the weekly Original Farmers Market complete with produce and prepared eats. Return on a Saturday to discover the secrets of Indianapolis City Market with a tour of the catacombs with Indiana Landmarks.
9: Try a new fitness class.
Downtown’s fitness studio options have exploded in the last year. From hot pilates to boot camp classes, you can mix up your routine and try something new!
