I swear that all cost less than £20

We may be broke and living off potato smiles, but we won’t let that stop us, because where there’s a will, there’s a way. (And, The Way takes the form of Space NK’s rather smashing January sale, sorted by Price: low to high, alongside some thrifty know-how.)

The journey toward pay day has been akin to climbing Everest. The problem is, during the coldest, dreariest (seemingly endless?!) month of the year, little pick-me-ups and a spot of therapy – retail, of course – seems not only reasonable, but actively necessary.

The fact is, great beauty doesn’t have to be expensive. You just need to know where to spend wisely to get that smug pay-off of exceptional performance *and* change left over from a £20. I even have a couple of staples in my makeup bag that cost less than a fiver. Why? Because despite having numerous makeup options at my disposal (the very best perk of my job), these out-perform their high-end counterparts. You can even get your hands on luxe brands like The White Company, NARS and Bella Freud, at a very reasonable price, if you know where to look…

If there’s one place you can go for honest (and often brutal) reviews, it’s Reddit. Whether it’s the latest film, a fashion week collection or a new beauty launch, you can rely of the Reddit community to share their no hold barred opinions, which also means they are one of the toughest crowds to please.

So, when a product receives almost unanimously positive feedback, you know that it must be pretty outstanding. Well, according to the group Skincare Addiction, which has over one million users, there is one moisturiser that ticks every box. The best bit? It’s budget-friendly and widely available in every high street beauty retailer.

According to Reddit users, Neutrogena HydroBoost Gel-Cream Moisturiser for extra-dry skin topped the charts for best gel moisturiser and according to user Katie Burrito, the skincare product had changed her skin entirely.

Writing on the message board, Katie wrote, “I’ve tried a lot of products to help my extremely dry, sensitive skin. It was really hard for me to find a product that thoroughly moisturised my skin that didn’t break me out or feel thick and heavy. The product feels so light and airy, almost a whipped-like consistency.” The Skincare Addiction member went on to praise the formulas quick-drying properties as well as its ability to sit seamlessly under sunscreen.

The cult cream boasts a Hyaluronic Gel Matrix that is able to lock in vital hydration, releasing it as needed throughout the day. Plus, it’s suitable for even the most sensitive skins, being fragrance-free, oil-free and dermatologist tested. Oh, and it’s only £8.66.
