If you’re still in the dark about what exactly SPF is, allow us to explain. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and it measures the level of protection a product will give you from UVB.
The British Association of Dermatologists recommend always using a minimum of SPF 30, which blocks 97% of UVB. To put that into context, SPF 15 blocks 93% and SPF 50 blocks 98%.
With summer fast upon us, many of us are (or really should be) stocking up on SPF.
But in the fast-paced and fickle beauty industry where science is constantly serving up new solutions, a new formula that shields skin from the harsh effects of a changing environment is making noise.
GPF, which stands for Genetic Protection Factor, is a sub-formula that shields skin from the harsh effects of a changing environment, which is vital in this day and age (hello, pollution).
The first-ever sunscreen to contain GPF is Tetra from Priori Skincare, which, when combined with its other four levels of protection, repairs some skin damage while providing full protection to skin in a way that adapts to each individual’s specific year-round environmental changes (which are aplenty right now).
So what exactly does GPF do?
It’s packed with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide for sun protection, as well as a DNA Enzyme Complex, which helps repair damaged DNA strands, an IR Complex, which targets the damaging effects of infrared radiation by 96. It’s also packed with Soliberine, an ingredient which scavenges the effects of UV and blue light and powerful antioxidants to protect against free radical damage. Talk about a multi-tasker!
Discussing the benefits of GPF, celebrity skincare guru, Michaella Bolder, said: “We are so well educated on skincare now and SPF has become part of our day to day skincare regime. There are so many available offering the usual UVA UVB protection, but how about FOUR levels of protection that adapts to your own skin type, high levels of antioxidant power, infrared protection, free radical barrier and did I mention it’s a mineral based SPF45 that won’t clog your pores?”
You heard it here first: GPF is the new SPF.
