I tried Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s favourite spray tan

As someone who laments their pale skin, I’ve dabbled in spray tans before but never much enjoyed the experience. From skin as sticky as a pritt stick to stained bedsheets and the smell of a ginger nut biscuit, fake tan is often more effort than it’s worth.

And that’s before you wake up orange enough to be the newest cast member of TOWIE.

But that all changed when I visited James Read’s salon in Hershesons at Harvey Nichols. Recognised as the industry’s leading tan expert, James’ signature spray tan is the perfect destination if you’re looking to replicate the sun-kissed glow of last summer’s heatwave or hoping to fake a week long holiday in sunny Spain.

I opted for the former in fear of looking like a Wotsit but I needn’t have worried. Within 30 minutes, my skin had turned a gorgeous, golden bronze colour minus the shock factor. People commented on how well I looked but I’ve equally not had strangers looking at me aghast on the tube. Best of all, there was no stickiness, smell or stains.

Put simply, James is the ‘no makeup, makeup’ of tanning.

If you’re not sold just yet, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley might just seal the deal. In an interview with Sunday Times Style in 2018, the model and entrepreneur Rosie Huntington-Whiteley gushed about James Read spray tans. “I find it so transformative. I swear by James Read and I have regular at-home spray tans,” she said.

Discussing his tanning technique, James said: “With Rosie, I layer the tan so it fades more evenly and will last longer. It also allows her to wear the tan straight away as it looks very natural immediately”

What’s good for Rosie is certainly good enough for me.
