If you’re a fan of late ’90s and early ’00s fashion, you’re bound to celebrate the latest flashback Friday fashion trend to make a major return: thong heels. Much like bike shorts and scrunchies, we would be lying if we said we were waiting with baited breath for the heeled flip flops to return to the forefront of fashion, but alas.
Considering Kim Kardashian has played an instrumental part in reviving many of these questionable trends, it comes as no surprise to see the star stepping out in the style.
She sported them on more than one occasion, pairing them with everything from a form-fitting, thigh-grazing mini dress to her go-to pair of bike shorts and an oversized jacket, giving fans a sneak peek of theYeezy and 2XU collaboration which is slated to drop in April.
While Kardashian showed off the retro shoes, she isn’t alone. Our fave BadGal, Rihanna, sent a towering pair of heeled flip flops down the runway during her FENTY PUMA Spring/Summer 2018 show during New York Fashion Week, serving up a sporty take on the thong heel trend. We also spied the sandals on the runway during DSQUARED2’s Spring/Summer 2018 show, where the brand sent a pair of $1,485 buckle embellished thong sandals down the catwalk.
RiRi’s take on the trend includes a thick ankle-strap that buckles and the Fenty flip flop heels come in two hues: a beige and a bright neon. Although they were met with mixed social media reviews from fans when they made their way down the runway, we’re sure it’s only a matter of time before the stylish star steps out sporting the shoe of the moment.
