Despite the September shows feeling mere moments ago, a whole new season of runways kicked off this week in New York. One of which, making its debut, has already rendered itself one for the history books.
Luxury e-tailer, 11 Honoré, launched in 2017, and works with designers to expand their collections into more inclusive
sizing. Dubbed ‘The New Runway’, the brand hosted its first-ever show during the American leg of the four-city extravaganza to rapturous acclaim.
Featuring models of size 14 and upwards, the likes of Laverne Cox, Candice Huffine, Marquita Pring and Precious Lee wearing pieces sold on the e-tailer such as Christian Siriano, Chromat, Christopher Kane and Altuzarra.
While the industry is, occasionally, making an effort to make fashion more accessible and representative, the idea of such a cast of models is unfortunately still newsworthy. According to Refinery 29, only 0. 4% of AW19’s runway models were larger than their traditional counterparts.
Patrick Herning, founder of 11 Honoré, said to Harper’s Bazaar: “My biggest hope is that people will see the value and beauty of what we’re doing and understand further the shift that is happening within the fashion industry and our culture as becoming more diverse and inclusive. ”
The show was wildly popular, trending online globally for hours afterwards. The even better news? All the clothes were available to shop immediately.
Here’s hoping this season there are a whole lot more forward-thinking moments.
