When we say prosthetic makeup, you probably picture an orc from Lord of the Rings, right?
Well, what if we were to tell you that this is the latest Asian beauty trend? No, not transforming yourself into a hideous, mutilated beast (although that does sound pretty fun), using professional wax and tape to change and ‘improve’ your facial features as part of the normal, everyday makeup routine. Foundation? Check. Mascara? Yup. New face shape? Ummm…
It’s like contouring, but in 3D. A ski-slope nose requires a little ball of carefully placed wax, while Special FX slap could give you the skyscraper cheekbones and razor sharp jawline of your dreams. Top with a generous layer of traditional makeup and finish with a filter for a transformation to rival Jim Carrey in the Mask.
Of course, we would rather people embraced their natural features and didn’t feel the need to change them – our facial quirks are what give us character after all – but good lord, watching the living waxworks scrape off their prosthetic noses before bedtime is fun to watch.
