These beauty trends from Fashion Week will be everywhere, mark our words

One of the things we love most about fashion week is that it looks forward. And, as we head into the rain, drizzle and weatherproof layers of the autumn/winter season, we can enjoy a little escapism via neon bright runways, pastel cheekbones and breezy summer hairstyles.

Fashion week has kicked off in its first city, New York, before hitting fashion capitals London, Milan and Paris in the coming weeks. There’s been plenty of fashion inspo of course, but the hair and makeup looks have been next-level – and, thankfully, surprisingly wearable, too.

Already we’ve spotted a theme of shiny optimism and throwback nostalgia. At Moschino (which moved to NY from Milan), model Taylor Hill hit the catwalk with a cot mobile, complete with colourful beads and squishy toys attached to her head.

Likewise, Gigi Hadid swapped a handbag for a giant baby bottle for an accessory that’s unusual, but handy if you’re feeling parched. Not quite ready to revisit your nursery years? Half of the models paid a sweet – but slightly more subtle – homage to halcyon childhoods with beaded hair braids. The other half rocked ’60s bouffants paired with bright earrings and accessories.

Retro references have been a recurring theme. Alongside Moschino, Batsheva opted for Tracy Turnblad style bouffants, Ulla Johnson gave us ’70s page boy bobs and Collina Strada served up grungy ’80s punk rock with colourful mullets, rattails and plenty of back-combing.

Stacked hair accessories are the way pretty way to add extra interest to hair – the trend was seen at Alice & Olivia and Naeem Khan.

Smoky eyes are set to become a spring staple, having headlined at Altuzarra among other. Plus all eyes are on, well, eyes with multiple shows opting to play up the feature with fun flashes of colour.

And, if your bored of sticking to enhancing your eyes, lips and cheeks, why not give your ears, foreheads and brows a glam up with glitter and tinted mascara like the guys at Private Policy and threeASFOUR.
