The very best knitwear to elevate your cosy looks this season

As we all know and agree (don’t we? ), the joys of knitwear are enough to make anyone’s winter woes float away on a cosy cashmere cloud.

Because really, when there’s such a crisp bite in the air outside, is there anything more tempting than a great big knit? That’s rhetorical, by the way.

If you’re lamenting the loss of summer (or rather, the lack of summer that the UK gave us at all this year), we’ve got some good news for you: knitwear. Yes, autumn may be colder, it may be darker, and it may be less appropriate to order an Aperol Spritz at 2pm, but it’s officially sweater weather.

Not only is it one of the most comforting things you can wrap around your body (except, you know, going out in wrapped in a legit blanket), but the best knitwear out of the moment also pairs perfectly with leggings and loungewear – which, let’s be honest, we’re all struggling to let go of after eighteen months in various stages of lockdown.

38 of the best winter coats and jackets we predict are going to sell out

And if, like us, you have a minor knitwear addiction, you’ll be glad to know there’s a smorgasbord of epic new season styles to snap up right now to elevate your cosy looks this autumn. And if you have been on the ‘gram lately, you will have noticed that every influencer, stylist, fashion editor and generally stylish person has been sporting various chic iterations of knitwear. From jumpers to sweater dresses, knitted skirts and bang-on-trend vests, knitwear is literally everywhere at the moment. But exactly which styles should we be snapping up, both in the trend stakes and the ‘I-won’t-be-bored-of-this-in-a-month’ stakes?

Cut-out designs are a great place to start. Admittedly, the gaping hole goes somewhat against the ‘cosy’ aspect, but the cut-out knitwear trend has been one of the most popular over several of the last seasons and it’s not going anywhere soon…

Cecilie Bahnsen has a beautiful sweater with an open back tied with a ribbon that would elevate just about any pair of jeans, while Free People’s coral knit with a cut-out to the front is one of the best knits of the season.

Knitted dresses are a great option for those looking to throw something on in a rush before the first Zoom call of the day – plus it doesn’t get much more comfy, and at the same time, still manages to look effortlessly chic. Whistles is giving us laid-back luxe vibes (on a budget) with a beautiful collared forest green midi, and for something a little special we’re very tempted by Christopher Esber’s instantly recognisable cut-out strappy maxi.
