The US areas with the highest and lowest rates of car theft

According to government data, these are the 10 metropolitan areas with both the highest and lowest rate of vehicle theft in the US. What the numbers seem to suggest is that you should live on the East Coast, in a colonial-era town, and become a Mets fan. That last one is optional.

10) Salinas, CA – 579.5 thefts per 100,000 people.

9) Salt Lake City, UT – 590.5 thefts per 100,000 people.

8) Modesto, CA – 648.1 thefts per 100,000 people.

7) Detroit-Dearborn-Livonia, MI – 672.1 thefts per 100,000 people.

6) Tacoma-Lakewood, WA – 674.3 thefts per 100,000 people.

5) Anchorage, AK – 878.9 thefts per 100,000 people.

4) Bakersfield, CA – 732.5 thefts per 100,000 people.

3) Oakland-Hayward-Berkley, CA – 737.5 thefts per 100,000 people.

2) Pueblo, CO – 809.9 thefts per 100,000 people.

1) Albuquerque, NM – 1,1018 thefts per 100,000 people

10) Altoona, PA – 44 thefts per 100,000 people.

9) Appleton, WI – 43.1 thefts per 100,000 people.

8) The Villages, FL – 42.5 thefts per 100,000 people.
