The tracksuit was a defining silhouette in the early ’00s, reminiscent of the pre-Instagram era ruled by Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan–and Juicy Couture was the brand of choice for the celeb set everywhere, as they proudly sported the trend, (and the words ‘Juicy’), across their backsides.
Well, not only did the brand make a major resurgence, which is due, in part, to the return of nostalgic fashion trends and logomania, but the comfort and ease of the tracksuit also staged a major fashion revival, with designers from the likes of Gucci and Valentino sending chic versions down the runway.
The trend crept back onto our style radar a little over a year ago, and now there are more ways than ever before to sport the styles.
Given the rise of the athelisure market, it comes as no surprise to see the comfort and ease of the tracksuit back in style. Gone are the days of low-slung, hip-hugging pants–very much like the clientele who rocked the trend over a decade ago, the silhouette has gotten a sophisticated, grown-up update and brands are reimagining new ways to sport the style that extend far beyond the typical two-piece set…although let’s get real: we’re all for throwing on a comfortable pair of joggers that also look polished and cool.
2(X)IST Jungle Cat Retro Trackpant, $78; 2xist.com
2(X)IST Jungle Cat Track Jacket, $78; 2xist.com
The form-fitting jogger and embroidery adds a modern twist to these matching separates, which can be worn together or alone to achieve an effortlessly cool outfit. Take a note from street-style stars and sport the pants with a pair of pumps and a blouse if you want to dress up the silhouette, or throw the whole look together with trendy sneakers for a casual look that’s perfect for the weekend.
A few years ago you might have associated the iconic ’90s logo from the Champion brand with school sweatshirts, but times have certainly changed and the athletic brand now personifies cool, thanks to recent high-fashion collaborations and a slew of celeb fans.
We’re especially loving their exclusive designs for Urban Outfitters, which consist of shorts and a matching crewneck sweatshirt–nothing can compare to the comfort, easy, and style of this set and it’s a modern update on the trend you can wear all summer long.
Adidas Originals Track Jacket, $100; adidas.com
One of the most popular brands to capitalize on the return of the tracksuit is Adidas–and we especially love the new silhouettes they’ve added to their collection, like a longer, draped version of the traditional track jacket, which you can easily throw over staples you already have hanging in your closet for a trendy, put together look.
Ann Taylor Dolphin Hem Pull-On Pants, $89; anntaylor.com
If your style is more classic and you dread the thought of suiting up in trendy sweats, embrace a more dressed-up version of the silhouette that’s perfect to take from desk-to-dinner — and everywhere in between.
Garage Wide Leg Track Jumpsuit, $39.95; garageclothing.com
If you rather not fuss with separates than the track jumpsuit is the silhouette for you. Dress up the wide-leg silhouette with pointy pumps and a fitted, cropped blazer, or keep it casual with sneakers and a denim jacket. Either way, you can’t go wrong with the ease of this stylish one-piece.
