Thankfully, there seems to be a way out and no, it doesn’t involve chemicals. In fact, this genius hack actually requires completely rethinking the way you wash your hair – and will actually prevent hair loss in the first place so eliminating the problem entirely. OK, we are all ears.
Lars Skjoth, the founder of hair-loss prevention brand Harklinikken, revealed the surprising technique in an interview with Byrdie.
The hair guru, known as the ‘Danish Hair Whisperer’ shared his top tips for stopping your hair falling out in the shower and it requires switching around the order of applying shampoo and conditioner. Skjoth then goes on to reveal that you should only apply shampoo to your scalp and not to the ends of your hair, while using conditioner only on the ends of your hair and not on the scalp.
He told Byrdie, “After wetting your hair, add a good amount of conditioner to the hair from the ears down. When you wet your hair on a daily basis, using an ample amount of conditioner provides excellent protection for the hair to keep it from getting dried out. ”
Skjoth added, “Next, working in sections, lift the hair and hold it away, then, with the other hand, apply shampoo just to the scalp, gently working your fingers in circular motions. The goal is to avoid getting shampoo on the lengths of the hair and, in turn, conditioner should be avoided on the scalp, as it can clog the hair follicles and may lead to scalp problems and hair loss. Rinse out the shampoo, but lift the conditioned hair away so that the shampoo does not rinse out the conditioner. The process of applying the shampoo and rinsing it out should take one to two minutes”
“When all the shampoo is rinsed out you can gently rinse out the conditioner. ”
It might mean a hair-washing re-education and quite a faffy process but if there’s no more hair loss and fewer trips to buy nasty chemical-loaded sink-unblocker, we’re sold.
