The new show from the people behind Love Island sounds epic

You’ve be relieved to hear that we have found just the thing to replace Love Island when it finishes. Singletown is a new ITV show that promises to be just the right sort of trash to please the most ardent Love Island devotee.

When Love Island ends, we’re all going to have to find something else to do with our lives at 9 o’clock every night. The islanders will have found true love by then obviously so they’ll all go home to their Boohoo discount codes and leave us with a gaping hole in our precious evening television line-up.

Here’s the premise: People in relationships opt to have a summer apart, to test their relationship and see if they’re meant to be forever. Some of them are childhood sweethearts who’ve never been with anyone else, some of them are doubting their commitment and some of them just want one last summer fling before they settle down. All of them will move into luxury London flats and go on a series of epic dates with hand-selected suitors.

When the season’s over, they have to decide whether to get back together with their former beloved or end things permanently in favour of the single life.

Savage, right?

But potentially so, so good.

Singletown will take the Love Island time slot at 9pm every night but Saturday. As Cosmo reports, it will feature straight couples, gay couples, different ethnicities and – for a change – different body types.

“Hot on the heels of Love Island, we’re thrilled to be partnering with Keshet on this unique series,” said Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels. “Singletown is a fun relationship show featuring a diverse mix of young couples from all over the UK brought together in the most aspirational urban setting – London in the summer. ITV2’s young audience will hopefully be hooked on the dating dilemmas, twists and turns and the fresh and re-kindled romances that emerge from this exciting new format. ”

You betcha. That’s our 9pm viewing sorted.

Oh, and we should mention. If you really, really like the sound of this show (or really, really don’t like who you’re currently coupled up with), applications are actually open now.
