The Most Empowering Signs From Amber Rose’s SlutWalk

Over the weekend, Amber Rose held her annual SlutWalk, a march to raise awareness about sexual assault and slut-shaming, in Los Angeles. Rose, a longtime advocate for women’s sexual health, empowerment, and safety, showed up dressed as “Captain Save a Hoe,” her new superhero alter ego.

Celebrity guests included Blac Chyna, a recent victim of revenge porn by ex-boyfriend Robert Kardashian, and Just Brittany, who performed at the event.

The first SlutWalk occurred in Toronto in 2011, following comments by members of the local police department and Manitoba Court of Queen’s bench justice Robert Dewar blaming victims of sexual assault for dressing provocatively. The first SlutWalk was attended by over 3,000 people. Since then, the walks have happened around the world in over 200 countries. Rose organized her first walk in 2015, and has since used her celebrity to draw attention to the cause.

“I got to a point where I really stopped giving a f*ck, and that’s when I truly got enlightened,” Rose told Mashable. “People are getting more aware. I kind of just shouted from the rooftops. No radio personalities wanted to talk about it. No celebrities wanted to come. I did this sh*t myself. ”

As you might expect, the signs carried (and in some cases, worn) by participants were bold, funny, and totally on-point. Keep scrolling for some that we found most empowering. Because “Girls just want to have fun-damental rights. ”

I Don’t Give A Fuck What You Call US We Still Aren’t Asking For It! We Damn Sure Don’t Deserve It! #RapeCulture is real! We must unite and educate and this is EXACTLY what the #SlutWalk is about! Thank you @rissawuzhere for being here today.

Here here, cheers, congrats and right on. To everyone that took part in all the Slutwalks around the world (200 countries) to promote self expression, equality, the end of body shaming, victim blaming, over sexualizing and the attempt to take the right away from women to dress as they like and expect not to be sexually assaulted for doing so.
