Full of preppy intarsia knits, cute kilts and brilliant duffle coats, inspired by Megeve – the French ski resort where Ines spent her childhood holidays – the pieces are cool, simple and perfectly ageless.
Plenty are in Ines’ signature shade of navy although there is black for the first time in the collaborations’ 12 collection history. Ines thinks that black is “sometimes a little bit dusty – not everyone is neat! And blue and green are also more creative than black… Black is too easy! ”
True style icons are few and far between in the age of the influencer – but before the ‘gram, there was Ines de la Fressange. A model since she was 17, former muse to Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel and now nearly 62, Ines has since added art director, designer and author to her bow, all while consistently being cited as one of the most stylish women in France. Now, we can get a little bit of her insouciant style from her new collaboration with Uniqlo too.
More down to earth than any other supermodel I’ve met, when GLAMOUR joined Ines in Paris for the collection’s unveiling she explained why everyone needs “a lover” in their wardrobe (along with white jeans) and how clothes that you feel comfortable in should be our essentials.
“We know that in some things we feel better and these are the good things. ” Clothes that make you feel rubbish… along with friends and jobs… have had their day. Ines revealed her secret to getting dressed (using the weather app on her phone) while citing Jane Birkin as being “perfect” as older style inspiration.
According to Ines, “age doesn’t mean so much. ” GLAMOUR agrees. Age is a number and just because you might be heading to retirement (we’re not jealous, at all) it doesn’t mean you should slacken off on the style stakes (unless you want to, of course. ) Along with Ines @inesdelafressangeofficial – obviously – here are five more influencers over 50 you need to follow…
@greceghanem
Montreal-based personal trainer Grece, set up her account after her daughter (and chief photographer) persuaded her to share her cool and edgy-but-never-weird style. Her collection of sunglasses and statement earrings are to die for.
@meryemsfirst
Although this account is run by 35-year old Meryem Slimani, the star of the feed is undoubtedly Meryem’s 66-year old mum who steals the show with her colour co-ordination, sporty look (Nike hijabs) and supercool sneakers. We love it for showcasing modest fun fashion – for any age – and putting the focus on older Muslim women.
@thatsnotmyage
British blogger and author Alyson Walsh has the kind of minimal-chic feed that chimes perfectly with today’s aesthetic – although expect plenty of prints, pattern and brilliant accessories thrown into the perfectly-styled mix.
@moonlin0106
If you thought streetwear was only for teenage boys, look again. The baddest OG (that’s original Grandma…) on the block wears the freshest drops from Supreme, Nike and Carhartt in a completely inspiring and original way.
@venswifestyle
Although Renata Jazdzyk lives in Newcastle her outfits are worthy of Paris Fashion Week. Mixing extreme trends – like point toe soles, minuscule Jacquemus bags and bold prints – we love her eclectic look.
Ines de la Fressange’s collection for Uniqlo is out on August 29th.
