The biggest beauty trends for next season, from embellished braids to glam grunge

Most recently, Paris has offered some makeup artistry and hair styling at their finest. Makeup artist LuciaPieroni painted on subverted lashes at Givenchy to painterly effect, Acne Studios showcased sequinned lips in a sunny coral shades and hair stylist Guido Palau dyed models’ hair bold shades of red and blue at Loewe, and styled it into bowl cuts.

Plus, there’s a definite theme of shiny optimism and throwback nostalgia. At Moschino (which moved to NY from Milan), model Taylor Hill hit the catwalk with a cot mobile, complete with colourful beads and squishy toys attached to her head.

Fashion week has made headlines (and some serious fashion statements) in all four of the fashion capitals from New York, London, Milan and Paris with plenty of wardrobe inspo as well as the hair and makeup looks, which have been next-level – and, thankfully, surprisingly wearable, too.

One of the things we love most about fashion week is that it looks forward. And, as we head into the rain, drizzle and weatherproof layers of the autumn/winter season, we can enjoy a little escapism via neon bright runways, pastel cheekbones and breezy summer hairstyles.

Then there was a serious ’90s moment in Milan, with a number of nostalgic beauty trends making a high fashion comeback with body glitter at Blumarine, poker straight hair and bandanas at Fendace (the Fendi and Versace show) as well as face gems at Etro (think Gwen Stefani circa 1996).

Not quite ready to revisit your childhood years? Numerous designers paid homage to halcyon days with retro ‘60s beehives, Tracy Turnblad style bouffants, ’70s bowl bobs and vintage blow dries, seen at Batsheava, Ulla Johnson and Rixo to name a few.

‘80s punk rock and ’90s grunge has also made an appearance with Collina Strada serving up colourful mullets, rattails and plenty of back-combing, while Mark Fast, Coach and Supriya Lele all made grunge glam lips in deep stains and latex finishes the focus.

Stacked hair accessories are the way pretty way to add extra interest to hair – the trend was seen at Alice & Olivia, Simone Rocha and Tom Ford. Meanwhile floral details appeared at Rixo, Yuhan Wang and Naeem Khan.

Smoky eyes are set to become a spring staple, having headlined at Altuzarra among other. Plus all eyes are on, well, eyes with multiple shows opting to play up the feature with fun flashes of colour.

And, if you’re bored of sticking to enhancing your eyes, lips and cheeks, why not give your ears, foreheads and brows a glam up with glitter and tinted mascara like the guys at Private Policy and threeASFOUR.
