The 4 major fashion trends to come out of Love Island this year that we’ll all be wearing them this summer

Over the last 2 months, the Love the Sales data team has been tracking UK fashion searches, sales trends and page views on popular products based on the Love Island cast’s style. We asked them to share the 4 biggest trends to come out of the show this summer that we’ll all be wearing this season…

Oh, Love Island. You’ve given us tears courtesy of Amy Hart’s leaving speech, laughter thanks to Chris and his iconic salmon dive and probably a lot of cellulite from time spent on our sofa this summer.

As well as our vocabulary (it is what it is), summer’s hottest show has also unsurprisingly had a major influence on our wardrobes.

As we prepare to wave goodbye to our favourite Islanders for 2019 (thank god for the winter edition in early 2020), we’ve had a little delve into how their styles have impacted summer wardrobes across the UK.

Neon

According to the experts, the biggest trend of the series was undoubtedly neon. Islanders plumped for neon colours for their swimwear, bodysuits, mini skirts and dresses, as well as extending the vibrant hue to their fingers with neon nails. Shoppers took note; searches that included ‘neon’ went up by 221% over 8 weeks. The most popular of colours for the trend were yellow and lime green. Not one for the faint-hearted, vibrant zesty hues are back with a bang this year after endless seasons of the fashion pack drooling over all things pastel. Grab your sunglasses.

Snake Print

If leopard print was 2018’s pattern of choice, then this year’s islanders made snake the only print we want to adorn our bodies with. In doing so, searches for snake print clothing increased by 121% over the course of the show with snake print bikinis the most wanted styles in the UK, and snake print sliders, trousers and bodysuits also proving popular. Anna and Amber regularly combined the two biggest trends, wearing neon snake print bikinis.

Cowl Neck Dresses

A major eveningwear trend from the show was the cowl neck satin dress. Since June, searches increased by 79%, with the most in-demand styles being mini dresses – a favourite for Amber and Elma.

Perspex Heels

Since the dawn of this year’s show, searches for perspex heels have increased by 45%. The discreet footwear was universally loved in the villa and by consumers – shoppers hunted out the trend on ASOS, Missguided and Nasty Gal. Super versatile, Love Island girls wore the shoes with virtually every outfit and we will be too. Kim Kardashian would be proud.
