Square Toe Sandals Are The Easiest Way to Elevate Any Outfit

In reality, though, you don’t have to buy a whole new closet to mix things up for the season – a great new pair of shoes is all it takes. Shoe trends are an easy (and relatively affordable) way to refresh your look.

And this year, you’ve probably seen square toe sandals everywhere, from your Instagram explore page to the runways. The chic shape can instantly elevate any outfit – even just a t-shirt and jeans – and there are tons of fresh styles available.

Have you been itching to try the square toe sandals trend? Now is the time. Summer is an incredible opportunity to experiment with your style and indulge in the latest trends. However, it can be difficult to put energy (and money) into reinvigorating your entire wardrobe. Reaching for your tried-and-true basics becomes a habit, and before you know it, the season is over and you’re kicking yourself for not taking more risks.

“Square toe sandals were big in the ’90s, which makes sense because 2021 style is like the ’90s and the ’70s had a fashion baby,” says fashion stylist Lauren Smith. “I believe it was Bottega Veneta and Jacquemus who really reintroduced the square toe sandals into the 2020s.”

The appeal of square toe sandals, Smith says, is in their simplicity and versatility. “I think the square toe sandals trend is super chic and can add some style to an everyday look,” she says. “It’s flattering because it adds a slight edge and class to any outfit, depending on how you style it.”

While square toe sandals can certainly be dressed up with dresses or skirts, Smith prefers them in a more casual setting. “I actually wear square toe sandals on errands!” she says. “If you pair the sandals with a wide-leg jean and a band-tee or a cute crop top, it’s casual and chic.”

And while neutrals are always a great option when it comes to shoes, but Smith suggests using this trend to infuse some color into your wardrobe. She notes that lilac is super trendy for 2021. When it comes to brands, she recommends H&M for a more affordable option and Bottega Veneta if you’re looking for a high-end pair. Whatever your budget, we’ve rounded up a variety of chic options below.
