Sheesh, Ashanti Found the Be-All and End-All of Strappy Dresses For the VMAs

Sorry, peanut butter and jelly, but Ashanti and cutout dresses are coming for your title as the ultimate match made in heaven. On Sunday evening, Ashanti debuted yet another sexy dress from her collection while attending the MTV VMAs, successfully one-upping the head-turner she wore to Fat Joe’s 51st birthday party.

The singer walked the red carpet and later presented on stage in a black harness-style dress by Michael Costello, featuring a plethora of glittery straps that buckled in the front and extended all the way down her right leg. I mean, sheesh – no wonder Nick Cannon bowed down and smooched her hand on the red carpet!

With help from stylist Tim B, Ashanti accessorized her barely there dress with ankle-strap Jennifer Le heels, GBGH jewelry, and a floor-length braid. Read ahead to take a full look at Ashanti’s VMAs outfit, then catch up on what other celebrities in attendance wore for the star-studded night.

Rihanna Casually Wears Over 267 Carats of Diamonds to Complement Her Parka Couture

Leave it to Rihanna to arrive at the Met Gala after the red carpet wraps. . . and still make a splash. The multihyphenate and Met Gala legend showed up fashionably late in a look we can only describe as parka couture.

Truly unlike anything else worn during the night, her puffy Balenciaga gown featured a floor-sweeping, fluted train, as well as an exaggerated collar, all in a nylon parka material.

She appropriately topped off the look with a matching black beanie, with a stunning jeweled headband peeking from underneath it. She also accessorized with Bulgari diamond necklaces, bracelets, and an earring amounting to over 267 carats, in addition to a diamond ring from Thelma West. Rihanna posed on the Met red carpet alongside boyfriend A$AP Rocky, who also wore an oversize parka, but in a patchwork print. I Need a Telescope to See All the “Celestial Crystals” on Anok Yai’s Met Gala Gown

The 2019 Met Gala’s “Camp” theme still had a prominent influence on many of this year’s attendees, but many of those who understood the 2021 Met Gala’s “In America” assignment took inspiration from some of history’s most influential stars. Much like Yara Shahidi showing up in a head-to-toe Dior outfit inspired by Josephine Baker, model Anok Yai also gave a nod to the 1920s entertainer and civil rights activist.

Channeling peak “Old Hollywood” glam, Anok posed on the Costume Institute steps in a figure-hugging Oscar de La Renta dress from the Spring 2022 collection. While Anok and Yara’s outfits couldn’t have been more different, both paid an honorable tribute to the Jazz Age star.

Described as a “skimming celestial crystal gown” by the Oscar de La Renta Instagram page, the dress features a plunging neckline and crystal designs in the shape of flowers and stars. Stylist Carlos Nazario paired the look with Giuseppe Zanotti heels, matching sheer black opera gloves, and an oversized shawl bursting with black feathers, which Anok pulled off effortlessly. Looking left or looking right, the model nailed every single pose and came out looking like a star in her own right from every angle. Prepare to be dazzled by Anok’s crystal-covered dress and impeccable poses ahead.
