At last year’s Met Gala, Selena Gomez further personalized her custom Coach look by hiding a meaningful message – a reminder to “love yourself first” – in the embroidery of her bag.
When she returned to the event in 2018, she decided to once again include a secret, but very personal note in her ensemble.
Gomez returned to the Met Gala Red Carpet with Coach this year, and walked the Met stars alongside the brand’s creative director, Stuart Vevers. The performer wore a floor-length ruffled gown with silk gauze and hand-pleated frills, and carried a turnlock-style handbag.
And if you look closely, you’ll see that the look is “finished with a personal touch from Ms. Gomez,” as Coach pointed out in a press release: There are handwritten notes on both the side of her bag and on the ribbon on her gown.
During E! ’s live broadcast, it was revealed that the quote, which is printed in Gomez’s handwriting, was a verse from the Bible. Upon closer inspection – and thanks to a close-up shot of the bag posted on Coach’s Instagram – you can read the message, which is from Proverbs more clearly: “A woman who fears the lord is a woman who shall be praised. ”
“The starting point when I work with Selena is always Selena,” Stuart Vevers told Vogue before the Gomez’s Met Gala dress was revealed on the red carpet. “She has such an effortless sense of style, and we wanted to evoke that graceful and easy feeling. ”
Indeed, this might be Gomez’s most personal Met Gala look yet.
