Before the Alexander McQueen Fall 2018 show kicked off on Monday, its attendees already knew they were in for a good time: Each seat was covered with personalized Aran sweaters, armed and ready to give the fatigued fashion month participants a much-needed warm embrace.
But these Irish wool jumpers didnt make into Sarah Burtons cold-weather range; instead, she offered up a dramatic, finely-tailored lineup of suits, skirts, padded toppers, capes and expertly crafted eveningwear.
Black, red and stripes dominated the collection, along with fringe detailing, long leather belts, butterfly-like patterns and bug beading. The collection also paired romantic Victorian silhouettes and lace with gothic, hard-edged elements — a McQueen signature and further proof that no one does hard and soft better than Burton.
