Sea glass nails are all over our Instagram feed RN

We’re constantly trawling Instagram fornail art inspoand the latest to pique our interest is sea glass nails.

Much like an extra shot in your flat white, a fresh manicure can really elevate your day. Whether it’s shellac, acrylics or an at-home mani, adorning your talons with a slick of polish just makes you feel that little more put together.

According to our friends over at Allure, sea glass nails are a grow up version of the viral jelly nails we saw all over social media recently.

Slightly opaque, sea glass nails are finished with a slick of clear matte polish (use one with a sheeny finish, glitter or sparkles if you’re feeling extra).

According to Refinery29, nail supremo Jessica Washick trailblazed the trend on Instagram. Talking about her inspo, she told them: “I was reminiscing about how fun the jelly-nail craze was and I wondered how that aesthetic could translate into the colder months, and the vision of opaque sea glass came to mind. ”

It seems she’s started a sea glass nail frenzy, with countless iterations of the trend cropping up on our feeds, each with their own spin. Here are some of our favourites people’s takes on the trend, from chic and pared back to festive and glitzy.

Dua Lipa Is Wearing the Coolest Collage Nail Art – Here’s How It Was Done

Dua Lipa frequently sports some enviable nail art, but her latest manicure by Michelle Humphrey had us even more mesmerized than usual. The singer posted a photo on her Instagram story of multicolored ombré nails with different symbols layered on top, ranging from smiley faces to fruit slices. Unlike popular 3D manicures, however, these little emblems were completely smoothed down, with a glossy topcoat.

If you’re wondering how Humphrey achieved this look, we have an educated guess – and it might surprise you. The small symbols are actually clay rods, sliced into pieces using a blade. The manicurist likely embedded the slices in wet acrylic nails using tweezers before the nail is pinched, shaped, and buffed. Then Humphrey likely added a topcoat once the nail had set, giving it a glossy finish without any added texture.

While the technique likely requires a professional, you can purchase the rods and blade on Amazon and bring them to your manicurist if you’d like to try out this collage-like art. Ahead, check out Lipa’s manicure and some tools to achieve the look.
