Celebrities in the know are turning to a lesser-known enclave just outside of New York City for some much-needed privacy and calm – and Scarlett Johansson just happens to be the latest Hollywood star to discover New York City’s low-key secret.
The Avengers actress was recently spotted eyeing properties in Palisades, New York, located in Rockland County, about 26 miles north of Manhattan. Sources tell the New York Post that Johansson may even already be in contract to buy a home there in an off-market deal for around $4. 8 million.
There are several available houses in the area that could be Johansson’s new home: a three-bedroom property called the Clock House, with an asking price of $3. 6 million, and a four-bedroom home called the Ivy House, with an asking price of $4. 29 million. Other celebrities who already reside in Snedens Landing include Diane Sawyer, Bill Murray, and Björk.
At present, Johansson already owns a home in Amagansett, which she purchased for $2. 2 million back in 2014. The home, which sits on 1. 4 acres, features pristine white walls juxtaposed with dark hardwood floors, cabinetry, and window frames.
There is an enviable pool and a wooden deck out back. She also maintains a stunning $3 million home in Los Angeles, which she also purchased back in 2014. The 3,500-square-foot home, located in the Los Feliz neighborhood, features four bedrooms and four full and two half bathrooms. It’s a different aesthetic than the impressive midcentury, Buff and Hensman–designed post-and-beam home she previously shared with her then husband Ryan Reynolds. They sold the home for $3. 5 million after their May 2012 split.
