Acne has been a PCOS side effect that Lea has struggled with for years – and she’s never shied away from speaking candidly about it, even revealing she’s gone on the super-powerful acne medication, Accutane, twice.
Lea Michele has long been open about her battle with PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome, which is thought to affect up to 1 in 5 women between the ages of 18 and 44.
Some women may never know they have PCOS since their symptoms aren’t bad enough to suggest a problem, others could lose their period, struggle with fertility, develop acne, hair loss or anxiety.
Taking to Instagram to share a bare-faced selfie, Lea wrote: “I’ve suffered from acne my whole life. I had to go on a lot of medication growing up (accutane twice) and many others to help my skin.
“I eventually learned I had a condition called PCOS which is a common diagnosis for women. I was able to correct my diet and get my skin under control. With the help of an amazing skin expert @shanidaren I also love @isclinical products. But strongly believe in taking care of yourself on the inside: drinking tons of water, good sleep, washing your face before bed, no smoking etc… and that is always a good place to start.”
She also credited the Tata Harper The Resurfacing Mask and Clarifying Mask for helping clear up her skin.
We love it when celebrities are so honest about their skincare struggles and give us an insight into their skincare regimes.
