As 2018 drew to a close, people used social media to look back on their stellar years. But as well as weddings, birthdays and new arrivals, some Instagram users opted to show the lows as well as the highs.
One such celebrity to give a raw insight into last year was Pretty Little Liars actress, Shay Mitchell.
The star took to her Instagram stories to share a look back at 2018 and as well as all the highs, she rounded off the story with a picture of a sonogram with a broken heart.
“Lastly, although it was an amazing year, it didn’t come without some hardships,” the 31-year-old actress wrote.

“We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life,” she added. “And sometimes it’s easier to only showcase the good times on social media, which is what leads so many people to criticize it for its lack of authenticity.
“The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams,” she wrote.
“In the spirit of the new year, I think that we need to remember that we are all on this journey together – in good times and bad – and to remind ourselves that we seldom really know or understand the struggles and hardships that other people are going through. ”
She signed off the message by adding: “So, for 2019, let’s all try to be a little more compassionate, empathetic, patient, and thoughtful with each other. This sounds like a great resolution to me. I hope that you agree. ”
We really respect Shay for being so honest about her miscarriage and we hope it helps break the taboo surrounding the topic.
