Prada Reinvents Its Own Classics for Resort 2019

Mere weeks ago, Italian fashion powerhouse Dolce Gabbana took over New York City for an entire weekend, using the Big Apples landmarks as backdrops for opulent, over-the-top fashion shows.

On Friday night, fellow Italian brand Prada also brought its runway show stateside, but the only thing the two have in common is their homeland. Where Dolce Gabbanas Alta Moda extravaganza was all about more-is-more details, Pradas Resort 2019 collection stripped things back to almost minimalist details.

The looks felt very 90s — perhaps youve heard theyre back? — with hip-slung miniskirts, tanktops layered over mocknecks and long, straight skirts. Easy, oversized leather and suede trenchcoats and giant trapper hats were a nice nod to practicality — the resort season does happen in winter, after all — and thin knits layered nicely with patterned suiting.

The neon scheme which dominated the Fall 2018 collection carries through here in piping and trim detailing.

Many of the pieces felt like revamps of prior Prada classics, perhaps Miuccia Pradas nod to the current millennial fervor for all things 90s: chunky loafers, so-bad-theyre-good patterns, sporty leather polos, sleek backpacks.

The whole proceeding wouldnt have felt out of place at the turn of the millennium; some of the models even wore extremely chunky blonde highlights in their hair. Bring back the low waist if we must, but lets leave that particular trend in the past, shall we?
