It may only be December, but speculation surrounding the Oscars 2019 is in full swing. After a phenomenal year of change in Hollywood, the most prestigious night in the awards season calendar will no doubt be one to go down in history.

When is it and how can you watch it?
The Oscars 2019 will be held on 24 February 2019, and will be broadcast live on Sky. Unfortunately for us in the UK, time differences mean the ceremony will not air until late in the evening.
Where is it taking place?
The 91st Academy Awards will be taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Who is hosting?
After a successful two year run, Jimmy Kimmel was due to be succeeded by comedian and actor Kevin Hart as the official host of this year’s awards ceremony. Hart originally expressed his joy on Instagram: “To be able to join the legendary list of hosts that have graced that stage is unbelievable”. However, he has now announced he’s stepping down as host amid a slew of backlash over some old homophobic tweets that were recently unearthed.
Speaking on the matter, he said: “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s…. this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past. ”

On Tuesday 22nd January, this year’s nominees will be announced.
Nominee Predictions
Looking ahead to next year, there are a plethora of films destined for Oscar-worthy glory.
Early frontrunners include Roma, the autobiographical drama from Alfonso Cuarón, and Bradley’s Cooper acclaimed directorial debut A Star is Born. Adam McKay’s Vice has also been widely praised, whilst Barry Jenkins new film, If Bale Street Could Talk, has enjoyed raving reviews.
However, with over two months to go, there are more contenders to come including films from Steve McQueen, Karyn Kusama and Mike Leigh, all of which have won early acclaim. Let the sofa sessions begin!
