Tis the season to be upset at how early Christmas is being shoved down our throats. For those of you who don’t feel like putting the tree up just yet, try celebrating these holidays this month.
November 1st – Men Make Dinner Day
November 2nd – National Plan your Epitaph Day
Never too early to plan out the fine details of your death.
November 3rd – Sadie Hawkins Day
It’s the time of the year where the girls ask the guys to the dance! Or so I’m told, no one ever asked me…
November 4th – King Tut Day
On this day in 1922, we discovered the entrance to King Tut’s tomb. That event changed the world, by inspiring the plot of The Mummy and letting us watch Brendan Fraser kick ass for 3 films.
November 5th – Guy Fawkes Day
The day was originally created to celebrate foiling Guy Fawkes plot to blow up Parliament. But more than anything it’s celebrated by quoting an overrated movie and to pretend you are a hacker.
You could alternatively celebrate Guy Fieri Day by wearing a bitchin’ shirt with flames and finding some diners, drive-ins, or dives.
November 6th – National Saxaphone Day
November 7th – International Tongue Twister Day
November 8th – Dunce Day
Duns Scotus was the creator of the dunce cap. He figured that the hat would act as some sort of antenna for knowledge, and send intelligence from the point down to the wearer.
But now we just put it on stupid people and make fun of them for being stupid. So I don’t think we’re honoring him correctly…
November 9th – Chaos Never Dies Day
It’s a day to remember that you control nothing and life isn’t out to get you, but it definitely wants to ruin something. Make Ian Malcolm proud and accept that chaos reigns supreme.
November 13th – World Kindness Day
Founded in 1998 by an organization called the World Kindness Movement, this international holiday encourages everyone to look deep into their hearts past religion, race, and other differences to do something nice for their neighbors and/or humankind.
November 15th – Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day
November 16th – Fast Food Day
The one day where stopping at both Wendy’s and Taco Bell makes you festive and not full of shame.
November 17th – Homemade Bread Day
Proof that this entire month might just be about carbohydrates.
November 19th – World Toilet Day
You may not think about your toilet too much, but today is the perfect day to give a shit.
November 22nd – National Start Your Own Country Day
Make your own flag and claim your neighbors pool. They’re still tired from Thanksgiving or out shopping, which makes it the perfect time to invade.
November 23rd – National Day of Listening
Sponsored by oral history nonprofit StoryCorps, this year’s National Day of Listening honors teachers. The organization has asked everyone wanting to participate to take a few minutes to thank a teacher (or two). Other ways to commemorate National Day of Listening is by recording interviews in veteran’s hospitals, senior centers, homeless shelters, and other community centers.
November 25th – National Parfait Day
November 28th – Red Planet Day
Is this holiday more about the planet Mars? Maybe. Will I celebrate it by watching Val Kilmer’s hit 2000 movie,Red Planet? 100%.
November 19th – Square Dance Day
Just like our great country, the square dance is another thing we stole from the Europeans and made into our own. Celebrate our history of taking what we want by swingin’ your partner round and round.
