Emma Louise Connolly and her pals are doing a virtual wine tasting

This weekend is, for most, the first weekend we’ll be practising social distancing properly. No restaurants. No bars. No clubs. No “mass gatherings”. So what on earth are we supposed to do instead?

Emma Louise Connolly offered up some much-needed inspiration when she took to her Instagram stories to share details of her Friday night plans. And it got our creative juices flowing. She told her 402k followers that she’d ordered Pull The Cork’s Isolation Wine Tasting Kit (available to buy for £45) ready for a live Instagram wine tasting at 7:30pm on Friday 19th March. She’ll be trying (read: “drinking”) the wines as wine partner Elliot Awin chats through them, giving suggestions of the foods they’re best paired with. Remember when you said you wanted to learn a new skill in quarantine?

Emma’s plans got us thinking. There are so many ways you can be social over your favourite drink, without leaving the house. You could pull your friends together – via Zoom, perhaps? – for your own wine tasting evening, or enjoy wine and cheese over virtual chats. You could host a cyber cocktail party, where each guest teaches the rest of the group how to make their favourite tipple. Equally, if it’s a quieter evening you fancy, watching one of Netflix’s new releases with a glass of Merlot would go down an absolute treat.

For each of these quarantine activities, you’ll need a decent amount of alcohol – because let’s face it, we’re going to be in this situation for a while. We’re not encouraging stockpiling, but in a bid to support smaller businesses during this confusing time, we are encouraging you to place an order with one of the best wine delivery services or alcohol subscription boxes. There’s plenty of vino to go around.

Work Well, Stay Well to Avoid Covid-19

We’ve tried and tested the most popular alcohol subscription and delivery services in the UK so that you invest in the best. Some, like I Love Gin, offer monthly subscriptions so that you can try a new tipple every four weeks in quarantine. Alternatively, services like Laithwaites and Majestic deliver the exact amount of wine you’re after, direct to your door. 31 Dover offers next day delivery on everything from beer to rum and vodka, while The Whiskey Exchange has an unbeatable selection of whiskies on site for you to order with ease.

Here are the best alcohol subscription services to elevate your social distancing weekend plans. After the week we’ve had, we could probably all do with it. Just make sure you drink responsibly.
