Meghan Markle’s new ‘Cali cool girl hair’ creates the illusion of more voluminous hair

The latest celebrity we’re looking to for hair inspiration is Meghan Markle, who has totally shaken up her hairstyle post-lockdown.

After cutting ties with the royal family – and all the rules, pomp and ceremony that come with it – the mother-of-one is experimenting with new looks; and she’s looking better than ever.

After months of staring blankly at our reflection on daily Zoom calls, we’re all using our post-lockdown salon appointments to trial new hair trends. Just look to our favourite celebrities for inspo; Khloe Kardashian is rocking light chocolate, Kate Middleton is trialling 3d brunette and Kim Kardashian has taken the plunge with cherry red hair.

Taking to a video call, Meghan debuted her long and glossy raven hair and was flooded with compliments. Meghan has long favoured messy buns and tousled ends but fans say her new hometown of California is seemingly influencing her relaxed new beauty look. We’re dubbing the new style ‘Cali cool girl hair’.

“Usually seen with her signature middle-parting and low bun, Meghan Markle is boasting lush new long locks,” said Jason Hogan, Celebrity Hair Colour Expert at Josh Wood Atelier, London. “The modern-day Duchess looks glowing and with added layers for extra style, her new look creates an illusion that pulls us into her stunning facial features. ”

Jason notes that lockdown has treated Meghan well and given her hait the chance to reclaim its health and gloss. “Due to quarantine, Meghan’s hair has grown a considerable amount and I am definitely a fan! Her new long layers create the illusion of more voluminous hair and add extra texture, giving Meghan some great styling options,” he said.

“This sleek, straight look is next-level cool and we are set to see a trend coming out of lockdown. ”

Want in? We certainly do. To get the look, Jason says you should ask your hairdresser for long, soft layers; avoid chopping into the hair and the result will be extra texture and volume, he says. “These soft layers can even enhance your face shape just like Meghan. ”

To create glossiness like Meghan, Jason recommends the Josh Wood Colour Semi-Permanent Treatment Gloss. “The gloss refreshes your colour, helps stop fade, nourishes and conditions hair for the ultimate, super shine finish. Simply use the Treatment Gloss as a weekly conditioning mask and ta-dah… hello, glistening locks like Meghan. ”

Jason adds that a serum is also important to use to rejuvenate lacklustre post-lockdown ends. He suggests Joico HydraSplash Replenishing Leave-in as a great option for fine and dry hair types because it boosts softness and shine and is ideal for creating flawless long blowouts and hydrates thirsty strands. Whose hair doesn’t need a giant drink after lockdown?
