According to Variety, Meghan and Harry said in a statement: “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.
“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced they have signed a deal with Netflix.
The couple have founded a production company, which has yet to be named, and signed a multi-year deal with the streaming giant.
“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens. We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action. ”
In a statement, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive and chief content officer, said: “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere. ”
As initially reported by The New York Times, Netflix will pay the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to make documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming. Although the royal couple may appear on camera, Meghan has no plans to return to acting.
Meghan and Harry will create a wide variety of series about themes close to their hearts, such as those highlighted by their newly-formed nonprofit organisation ‘Archewell’, adds Variety. A number of projects are already in development, including a nature docu-series and an animated series all about inspiring women.
This may just be the positive news that 2020 needed.
