Meet the catwalk makeup queen with the best glitter and rainbow lash hacks

Val Garland, the Brit MUA, is an A-lister in the beauty biz. Even if you’ve never heard of her by name before, we guarantee you’ll have tried out or lusted after one of her makeup creations, from the stunning glitter looks she created on the catwalk shows to the new must-have lipsticks.

Not only a regular creating amazing makeup looks for designers in all the fashion capitals, she’s also the go-to makeup artist for supermodel Mossy and Hollywood stars such as Julianne Moore and Helen Mirren.

In her role as Global Makeup Director for L’Oréal Paris, she works on creating the products we’ll have stashed in our makeup bags next season. Her most recent collaboration is with French designer Isabel Marant. The Wanted Isabel Marant X L’Oréal Paris collection includes a range of seven chic lipstick shades, and as we can’t decide on one we like best, we’re after the lot!

So when it came to GLAMOUR’s Autumn/Winter magazine issue, there was only one makeup artist we reached out to on Messenger. Luckily, for us we snagged a day of Val’s time and she agreed to bring the bold mash-up of colour and glitter that brought Autumn/Winter backstage beauty looks to life.

Drawing inspiration from the glitter she sprinkled across the hairline and onto the forehead at Preen; the full face of glitter at Giambattista Valli; and the of hand-drawn motifs at Vivienne Westwood; Val worked her creative wizardry on our Bright Sparks shoot.

‘The season was all about the spontaneity of festival face painting,’ Val says. And one of our favourite and easy-to-achieve looks is the Rainbow Lash, with four shades of mascara ombred over lashes.

To see the other looks Val created and get the lowdown on her best glitter tricks and super simple colour techniques, watch her at work behind the scenes on our shoot…

Then dig out your paintbox and go crazy with colour.
