Margot Robbie has already had a busy start to 2023. In just the past week she’s been in LA for the Golden Globes, London for her UK premiere of Babylon, and then to Sydney for the Australian premiere.
The Australian-born star made the Sydney premiere a family affair, as she was joined by her family members and several of her friends at the glitzy event on Monday night.
But it was one of her friends who made sure to embarrass the actor while she was doing red carpet interviews, calling Margot by her childhood nickname.
While she was speaking to reporter Justin Hill, one of Margot’s friends walking by yelled out: “Hey, maggot! ”
Margot jumped up and down and waved to her friends, before hiding her hands behind her face from embarrassment.
She then told Justin: “I saw my school friends. We have been friends since we were four years old. ”
“Maggot” was Margot Robbie’s nickname during school, and while it could be a play on her name, it could also be a reference to her love of the band Slipknot, whose fans are known as “maggots”.
The actor wore a baby blue Versace gown for the event and kept her hair in loose waves. For her UK premiere, Margot wore a shapeless — and backless — bright red Valentino gown with matching red lipstick.
Last month the Barbie actor revealed that she improvised an unscripted kiss with Babylon co-star Brad Pitt in the film.
“That wasn’t in the script,” she told E! News. “But I thought, ‘When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I’m just gonna go for it. ’”
She added that she did discuss the idea with director Damien Chazelle beforehand. “I said, ‘Damien, I think Nellie would just go up and kiss Jack. ’ And Damien was like, ‘Well, she could — wait, hold on. You just wanna kiss Brad Pitt. ’ And I was like, ‘Oh, so sue me. This opportunity might never come up again. ’ And he was like, ‘It does work for the character,’ and I was like, ‘I think so. ’”
Fair play, Margot.
