‘Makeup haute couture’ is the dramatic new beauty trend

I’ve had more requests from many of my celebrity clients for a more defined, sculpted look. Rather than the heavy ‘Instagram makeup’ that became a huge trend a few years ago, this is makeup that ‘looks like I’ve had my makeup done’ and is more refined, elegant, polished and beautiful – what I like to call ‘makeup Haute Couture. ’ In short – I think this season we’re going to see the return of makeup.

For the last year, we’ve seen lots of ‘no-makeup makeup’ looks: fresh faces, sheer and dewy skin and just a little bit of enhancement on the eyes, cheeks and lips. But as we head into colder months and the party season, I’ve noticed a real interest in more dramatic makeup looks.

I’m talking bigger liner, fuller lashes, more blush or a striking deep red pout. While hair trends have taken a step back for a more effortless look, makeup is taking centre stage again.

To keep this trend modern rather than reverting back to the Insta-trend of heavy contour and blocky brows, I would focus on one feature of the face which will help to really give your look some impact but keep it looking effortlessly cool. To find out how, read on…

I still like to keep the skin looking natural and polished for this look, and whether you use a full coverage or sheer foundation, it should still be flawlessly blended into the skin for an airbrushed look. I’m loving the new Sisley Phyto-TeintUltra Eclat, £66, foundation which uses a light diffusing technology and is oil-free, so you’re left with a velvety-matte but radiant complexion. If you prefer a lighter texture, the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream SPF 50, £31, never disappoints.

When it comes to eyes, don’t be afraid to go bigger. Bigger liner, bigger lashes and more definition. Highlight the inner corner of the eyes or add more dimension with something eye-catching and beautiful like the bareMinerals GEN NUDE Metallic Liquid Eyeshadow (I love the shade Golden Topaz), £20.

For the lashes, add extra volume with my new collaboration of lashes with Sweed. The Underlash, £16, gives incredibly defined bottom lashes, whilst my no-lash lash individual lashes give weightless volume and length for the most natural looking lash dreams you’ve ever seen, £22.

I’ve always been a huge fan of blusher, and the effect it has on the complexion, making you look happier, healthier and more youthful. The e. l. f. Cosmetics Jelly Pop Flush Blush, £6, has a unique gel texture that gives a beautiful flush of colour to the cheeks that looks like a highlighter and blusher in one. It looks great as a high blush across the tops of cheekbones and even slightly up the temple.
