Leather Trousers and Vegan Leather Trousers

You might not think a pair of leather trousers could be the chicest fashion item you will ever own but seriously, the ’80s rocker staple has had a makeover to become all sorts of elegant. And because it’s 2022, brands are getting on board with creating luxe-feeling vegan leather trousers and sustainable leather trousers that reduce the chemical processes in their manufacture.

We’re here for it. Although we will let you decide whether to go for real or for faux, depending on your own ethical choices…

We love the idea of wearing your leather trousers with strappy heels, a sharp tux-style blazer and nothing underneath for a night out. But equally they make your weekend loungewear and trainers combo feel less sloppy. Try them for the office too with an oversized shirt and a slick pair of black loafers.

As with all trousers, it’s essential to choose the silhouette that best suits your body shape and personal style, whether that’s a smart peg-leg shape (like these from Warehouse), a slouchy wide leg (as with Jonathan Simkhai’s tailored version) or wet-look leggings (we found these patent ones from All Saints. )

Also *newsflash* leather trousers don’t have to be black! If you’re taking a baby step into colour, try Topshop’s petite style in taupe, Free People’s chic cream version or Stradivarius’ brown cargo pants. Then, when you’re ready to go for full-on dopamine dressing, we adore the Barbiecore berry-toned cigarette trousers from ASOS or La Pointe’s slouchy lavender pair.

I’m a fashion director and this is why a leather blazer was one of my best purchases ever

There is some discussion over the use of the term vegan leather (Portugal has banned the description) but Nanushka make cruelty-free fashion a priority and we are here for their straight leg trousers in cream. Wolford’s weekend-ready track pants are made from vegan leather too.

If you’re looking to spend small, on the high street, Miss Selfridge have an on-trend pair of cargo-style faux leather trousers in khaki and M&S have a pair of faux leather cropped flared leggings for £25.
