Kerry Washington Just Debuted a Dramatic Jellyfish Bob

Kerry Washington is serving up a whole new lewk. On Tuesday, October 18, the Scandal star shared a video reveal of her fresh angular bob — which looks to suspiciously like the jellyfish cut — ahead of the premiere of her new film, The School of Good and Evil.

The video begins with two oversized “before” pictures of Kerry Washington looking a little worse for wear, before the photos are pulled back Princess Diaries–style to reveal Washington with full glam and a jellyfish bob.

Washington styled the new do with a minty green cropped polo shirt paired with a matching shiny maxi skirt featuring ruching detail in the front. The whole look — including her vibrant red lip — is giving us 21st-century mermaid, for sure.

And, for the unfamiliar, the jellyfish cut has been tipped as one of the trendiest, edgiest ways to wear layers. “It’s a ‘half short, half long’ mullet style,” Raven Hurtado, stylist at Maxine Salon, told GLAMOUR. “The jellyfish cut has disconnected sections, with the top section having very short layers while the bottom layer is long and textured. ” The top section is short and rounded, resembling a short bob or a bowl cut, while the longer layers resemble tentacles, which is how it got its “jellyfish” name.

As for the event which provided Washington with the opportunity to debut her new ‘do to the world, the star was celebrating her role as Professory Clarissa Dovey, the Dean of the School for Good opposite Charlize Theron in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil, which cam out on Netflix on Wednesday 19 October.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, the film follows «best friends Sophie and Agatha who find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where aspiring heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance between good and evil. ”

One thing’s for sure: Washington’s new look is undeniably “good. ”
