Joan Smalls Demonstrates What Good Spring Dressing Looks Like Sans Florals

At this time of year in New York, its common to wake up not knowing whether to expect snow or 70 degrees with plenty of sunshine, but either way weve got spring on the brain.

And while its easy to fall back on breezy dresses and floral prints when dressing for the season, were always looking for fresh takes on how to transition out of cold weather. Thats one reason the look Joan Smalls wore to the Nordstrom Mens Store opening in New York on Tuesday caught our eye.

Wearing a perfectly tailored Calvin Klein205W39NYCblazer dress in sparkling white, Smallss fit felt like a welcome departure from the dark colors that tend to dominate our winter wardrobes. Adding a bit of color to the ensemble were a pair of strappy pink stilettos, whose bling matched the sparkle of her David Yurman jewelry.

To top it all off, Smalls used a swipe of purple eyeshadow to add even more pop without detracting from the stark white of her minimalist dress. Were officially making note of the fact that white, with a few jolts of bright color, is all it takes to feel appropriately spring-y without falling for old clichés. Thanks for the lesson, Joan.
