Parents sacrifice the world for their children but how often do they return the favor? A 19-year-old college student wanted to help out his mother for her birthday by getting her a new bed.
For over a decade his mother slept on the couch, letting him sleep on their €100 (~$122 USD) mattress. After heading off to college the son got his first job removing wallpaper in a house for €2 (~$2. 45 USD) an hour.
The previous owners stacked layers of wallpaper and the entire removal process took him 40 days. With his first check, the son decided to replace that ratty 13-year-old mattress.
“You may ask – why a bed? Well, she raised me without a father so we didn’t have a lot of money despite the fact she fulfilled or at least tried all she could to fulfill every wish I had as a kid. For 13 years I slept on an old 100 EUR bed that at that point didn’t even have any cushion anymore and even gave me a splinter that caused a scar on my elbow. She however even slept on a couch for 13 years. Now that I moved out she uses my bed and I just know she deserves so so much better.
Including the fact that she has bone cancer and her bones might deteriorate and get very fragile I decided she needs a new, soft bed that won’t hurt my precious mom. Do you guys like the bed? “This is the old bed. As you can see this used to be my super edgy room before I moved. The bed cost €100 at a local furniture house, hence the poor quality. Add a decade of sleeping on it and its pretty much at the end of its life. ”

“THE NEW BED! Before I end this post: There are two people who I want to thank. Someone of this beautiful community named @flutterbyasaurus and her husband bought a set of Bedsheets in my moms favorite color as an additional birthday present. Gestures like these are reasons why I have faith in humanity. The fact that so many people said so many nice things really warmed my heart but these two are the actual highlight of this birthday.
