Taylor Swift shut down a sexist reporter who asked her if she wanted kids now she’s 30

The latest celeb to get the treatment is Taylor Swift, who found herself on the receiving end of a sexist question from an interviewer who asked her whether she planned to have children now that her 30th birthday is in sight.

It’s hard to fathom why, in 2019, women are still being subjected to sexist questions about their careers, lifestyles and reproductive choices, but it happens on a frustratingly regular basis.

During an appearance on German news agency Deutsche Press-Agentur/I, the singer was asked if her 30th birthday in December will be a “turning point” for a change of direction in her life, and whether she’ll now be thinking about settling down and starting a family.

According to fans who translated the interview, Taylor was not down for the intrusive and downright sexist speculation about her future plans for motherhood.

“I really don’t think that men would be asked this question when they turn 30,” she expertly replied. “So I’m not going to answer that now.”

Taylor, who has been on a pretty spectacular media tour for her new album/single iME!/I, went on to reframe the question and explain what the milestone really means to her, which sounds like an awesome philosophy to live by.

“I hear others say that in your 30s you don’t have as much stress and anxiety in your life as in your 20s, and I can add the observation that we in our 20s are on the search, to gain experience, try things out, fail, make mistakes.

“And I definitely plan to try and fail things in my 30s as well. But I expect that in our 30s we know a bit better about who we are. The closer I get to it, the more I feel that that’s what will happen. I hope it will!”

We’ll be not-so-patiently waiting for the release Taylor’s seventh album later this year, because there’s bound to be plenty more life lessons to come.
