I tried profile rebalancing, the latest tweakment trend

Our obsession with ‘tweakments’ isn’t going anywhere. In fact, the UK is the world’s fastest growing market for dermal fillers, an industry worth £1 billion a year, so safe to say we’re firmly in the midst of tweakment culture.

Why? Well, in contrast to full-on plastic surgery, fillersare a non-invasive, speedy, long-lasting (but reversible) way to achieve fuller lips, a defined jawline, structured cheekbones and a plumper, more youthful, less hollow under-eye area.

First thing’s first: at GLAMOUR, we are all about ‘your beauty, your rules’ and if you want to trial cosmetic treatments, that’s your call. If you’d rather embrace your fine lines and natural beauty in all its glory, you do you! If you want to trial Botox, that’s totally up to you. All we advise is that you seek the best advice and do things on your terms and we hope to provide you with exactly that on our website.

We also aim to share honest reviews of treatments we’ve tried. If you’re looking to trial something yourself, please do your research and consult an expert.

So needless to say, I’ve always been intrigued by cosmetic treatments. I’m up for trying all the latest beauty innovations, but in all honesty, the thought of going under the needle – no matter how non-invasive –left me a little uneasy. Until I came across Dr Tara Francis, AKA Enhance By Tara, on Instagram. The before-and-after pictures of ‘profile rebalancing’ –small amounts of filler injected into different areas of the face to create a more symmetrical, harmonious profile –seriously impressed me with the natural results. So, I had to try it out and pop my tweakment cherry.

What is profile rebalancing?

“Profile rebalancing involves looking at the side profile of the face, and injecting specific hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers for each area of the face being treated – usually nose, lips and chin, but sometimes forehead –to create a more harmonious and aesthetically pleasing silhouette,” says Dr Tara.

What happens during treatment?

After my initial consultation, Dr Tara sat me down and discussed the procedure, pre-post treatment care, expected results, and answered any questions I had. She then applied numbing cream to my lips, chin and the bridge of my nose before using a fine needle to inject small amounts of filler across the desired areas. This only took around half an hour.

How long does it last?

How long profile rebalancing lasts is different for everybody. “The fillers will last varying amounts for different people, and differentparts of the face,” Dr Tara explains. “It’s difficult to give a concrete number, but 6-12 months on average is what we hope for, apart from lips where I’d say speaking from experience, you can expect filler to last around 2-3 months if it’s your first time having them enhanced. ” Because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, the fillers are dissolved naturally in the body over time.

Is there any downtime?

The injections can cause mild pain and tenderness immediately afterwards, as well as swelling and bruising which can last up to two weeks, but generally there’s little to no downtime.

You should also avoid sunglasses, makeup, lip balm and alcohol for the first 24 hours, Dr Tara says, and try to sleep on your back for the first two nights in case the area is tender.

What’s the GLAMOUR verdict?

As an injectables rookie, I was pretty nervous before treatment. But Dr Tara made me feel safe and totally at ease, assuring me that I could stop any time during treatment.
