How To Tell if Someone Unmatched you on Bumble

How can you tell if someone unmatched you on Bumble? How can you unmatch with someone you no longer want to date? Can you block people on the app? These are all questions prompted from TechJunkie’s coverage of Bumble and, as always, we are happy to answer as many questions as we can.

Dating apps are taking over the world for singles under 35 and many cannot even remember a time when you didn’t find love, a date or hookup without swiping. Say what you like about the ‘good old days’, it has never been easier to look for a date.

Bumble is just one of the many dating apps around but to my mind, it is one of the best. It has flipped traditional dating on its head while seeking to address the worst in such apps, men who have no idea of how to behave online. By making women do the work and not allowing men to initiate conversations, many of the negatives of online dating are removed. The result is more women willing to use the app and a higher standard of male user who actually makes an effort.

Bumble isn’t perfect of course. People are people however they interact. But Bumble is definitely a move in the right direction.

How can you tell if someone unmatched you on Bumble?

The only way I know of to tell if someone unmatched you on Bumble is when a conversation disappears from your Chat screen. For example, you’re having a chat with someone within Bumble. You go to work with plans to chat again that night, yet when you go back into Bumble that night, the message has disappeared. That is a sign that the other person has unmatched you.

You can also tell if someone unmatched you on Bumble because their profile will disappear out of your Matches list.

If they deleted their profile or Bumble, the conversation would still be there but the username would change to Deleted Profile. If the conversation disappears, the person has unmatched you.

There may be no reason for this or there may be reasons you just can’t figure out. This is the downside of online dating. While Bumble does what it can to calm the waters, people can still act strangely on the internet and some people do consider others to be disposable as there are always plenty of others out there to play with.

One reason why they unmatched you on Bumble

There is another reason the person may have unmatched you on Bumble. This happened to a buddy of mine a couple weeks ago. He was chatting to a girl he really liked and made plans for that weekend. They swapped numbers and then he found all the conversations within Bumble had disappeared. Initially he was worried, but as he had her WhatsApp and her number and was still in contact, he relaxed.

The girl had unmatched him so he couldn’t see her activity on Bumble or how often she used it or when she last logged on. She wanted to continue using the app until she knew whether they would work out as a couple or not. So it isn’t necessarily all bad if someone unmatched you if you have other means of communication.

How can you unmatch with someone you no longer want to date?

If you want to do the unmatching in Bumble you can. The easiest way to unmatch with someone is to ignore them. After a period of inactivity, Bumble will void the match and force you to move on anyway. Matches without having a conversation initiated will expire after 24 hours or 48 hours if they are extended. Matches with conversations will also expire but after a longer period of time.

You can also delete the match from your Match List manually if you like. Hold down the contact and select Delete Match. Confirm when asked and the match will disappear. Be aware though that once deleted, you cannot recover that match.

Can you block people on Bumble?

You can actively block people if you don’t want them to contact you but doesn’t really seem to do much unless you’re a male being followed by a girl who won’t leave you alone. Female users can just unmatch and then move on as men cannot initiate conversations. If you need to block, select the match from the Match List, select Block, confirm and that’s it.

As far as I know unmatching and blocking does not stop that person appearing in your deck again later on. It doesn’t matter much though as you can let any match or chat expire without interaction.
